On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion took the lives of 11 workers, and injured 17 others.  Attention to this devastation quickly turned to a much larger issue: the countless barrels of crude oil flowing unencumbered into the Gulf of Mexico.  BP has estimated that approximately 100,000 barrels per day have been flowing into the Gulf’s vibrant ecosystem.

On October 14, 2010 in the Dean Alexander Moot Court Room  the Albany Law Review presented a symposium exploring the aftermath of the continuing oil spill.

Panel 1:  “Oil Spill Liability and Damages:  Past, Present and Future” - 10:30 am

  • Vincent Foley (Partner, Holland & Knight),
  • Maureen Leary (N.Y. Attorney General’s Office, Environmental Protection Bureau),
  • John Privitera (Partner, McNamee, Lochner, Titus & Williams).

Panel 2:  “Disaster Response:  Assessing the Adequacy of Environmental Laws, Regulations, and Litigation” – 2:00 pm.

  • Rebecca Bratspies (Professor, CUNY Law School),
  • Aaron Gershonowitz (Partner, Forchelli, Curto, Deegan, Schwartz, Mineo, Cohn & Terrana),
  • Tracy Hester (Professor, Universtiy of Houston Law School),
  • Jeffrey Miller (Professor, Pace Law School)

Moderated by Professor Keith Hirokawa (Albany Law School)
